Barbara Morris: Is it Time to Say Goodbye to Staying Young?

Girlfriends, let's get real. No one can stay young forever. No surprise there, right? Well then, why do we spend so darn much time and effort trying to "stay young"?

We all would like to look like we did when we were 25 (or maybe not). I for one, would not. At 25 I had those nasty crooked teeth that I no longer have and I'm in better shape now. I would like to have the thicker brown hair I had at 25 but that's long gone. But so what. Thank God for wigs. (By the way, http://www.BeautyTrends.com has some very nice wigs at reasonable prices. Check out the "Ella" model #52002 I recently purchased.. It makes me look like I should have looked at age 25.)

Most important, I'm a lot smarter now than I was at 25. Still not as smart as I need to be, but smarter. For example, I don't allow awareness of my chronological age to dictate how I think or live my life. I'm living as if I will live forever. I have no plans to move into a "Golden Ghetto" and vegetate with depressing old ladies who wear purple hats. Frankly, I think retirement communities should have a "black box" warning at their front gate: "Caution: This is a place where old people come to play and decay. Enter at your own risk."

Mary Lloyd: What Is Your Pain Teaching You?

Right now, there’s more than enough pain to go around.  The pain of losing a job.  The pain of losing your dream home.  The pain of being one of the survivors in the all too frequent announcement of yet more downsizing.  The pain of watching loved ones go through one or all of these things.

We’ve got plenty of physical pain right now, too.  Flare ups of stress-related health problems.  Accidents, which just seem to be more prevalent when things are not going well.  Colds and the flu hit more frequently when people are under stress, too

Yep.  There are a lot of ways we’re “feeling the pain.”  And we are probably telling ourselves, “This is not right.  I should not feel pain.”

That’s only true if you’re dead.  This time around in particular, maybe what’s causing the hurt is also what’s making us come back to life.  There is a reason for pain.  It helps you move fast to change what you are doing.

Joyce Shafer: The Splatter-Painting Lesson for Life and Business

Meaningful life lessons are sometimes derived from unusual or unsuspected methods and revealed many years later.

Recently, an image from when I was twelve years old came to mind. It was the first year a local elementary school held a weekend carnival. The usual junk food booths were there; but one where splatter paintings were created, captured my attention. A paper square was clamped to a turntable and the turntable spun as I squirted or dripped different colored liquid pigments from squeeze-bottles onto it. So, what’s the lesson?

Many of us approach our lives and/or businesses as many approach creating a splatter painting. We have the tools and we participate, but we do it randomly or even too cautiously.

Barbara Morris: Are Women Really This Dumb?

You have probably seen the TV commercial for Brinks Home Security:

A young woman home alone is running on a treadmill in front of a large picture window. It's dark outside and in the darkness a couple of menacing looking characters are eying their prey on the treadmill. Predictably, they break into the house. The alarm scares them away.

What's wrong with that picture?

What's wrong is that there are no curtains, blinds or shades on the window. You can't see into the darkness but anyone in the darkness can see into the well lit room. Is the young woman stupid, or what?
